“Then Alyss always wants Cheshire to stay.” She said, continuing to trace his paw, slowly moving upwards toward his shoulder. It was hard to believe he was the same kitten she’d gotten so long ago. She wished they both could’ve stayed that innocent. She remembered, clutching Cheshire to her chest as a child, her only friend, before she met Jack. Now he was doing the same to her. Almost as if their roles in the relationship had reversed. 

She felt herself drifting off, she didn’t want to fall asleep now, Cheshire had just gotten back. What if he left again while she was sleeping? She didn’t want to be alone again…when she was alone, bad things happened, no one was there to protect her. She couldn’t help the sleepiness now though…she hadn’t slept since Cheshire had last been here. Her breathing slowed even more, all the tension leaving her body. “Cheshire…please don’t leave…if I fall…asleep.” She said quietly… “I can’t be alone… no, I can’t be without Cheshire anymore.”

Her eyes closed, and she drifted further off…no doubt a nightmare would come, but Cheshire would be there when she woke up…at least she hoped he would. When he was away this last time, she’d begun to notice things. Her own feelings for one. Cheshire had always been important to her…but before, she’d been so consumed with Jack, that she couldn’t quite grasp that. She was beginning to accept that Jack wasn’t coming back…and her feelings for Cheshire had room to grow, and growing they were, into something she couldn’t entirely understand. But it was something that helped her feel less lonely…at least until he left. 

He opened his mouth as if to say something, but no sound passed his lips. He simply watched Alyss as she closed her eyes, his gaze softening. He didn’t know if he could stay forever— would he still be able to protect her if he did? Would he be able to destroy all the things that were hurting her? But if it was Alyss wanted… he would have to stay. Stay until she wanted him to leave, and come back when she wanted him to return. He would do anything to take away her sadness, and if staying was the way to do that, that was what he would do.

Even though he was now holding her in his arms instead of the other way around, some things had never changed. It was still Alyss who was lonely, who needed him to ease her pain— and it was still Cheshire who played with her and stopped her tears from falling down endlessly. Yet, other things were different. Thanks to Alyss, he now had a human form. He still was the cat he used to be, but now, he could finally protect her. Hold her. He didn’t know what he was becoming to her, but it didn’t matter to him. As long as he could stay close to her. And even if that would become something he couldn’t do anymore, he would keep protecting her. 

“Cheshire won’t leave,” he said softly, though he wasn’t sure she could hear him. “If his presence makes Alyss happy, he will stay. He will stay here, with you.”

His black tail wrapped itself around the seemingly fragile body, white tip curling slightly. Watching Alyss sleep made him feel a little sleepy himself, but he forced himself to keep his crimson eye open. He had to be there— he had to be there when she woke up. If she would get a nightmare. He just had to be there. Even if she would sleep forever in his arms, he would stay awake to watch over her. That was the least he could do.

A small sigh came out from the girl as she stared at the huge black cat. In a way, his statements went through her. There were a lot of questions that ran in her mind, wondered how this chain in front of her gave her the feeling not only of nostalgia, but attachment. And so, she believed him.

“Cheshire, was it not?” she referred to his name. The girl gazed back at him as she stepped closer. “I still think you’re hiding a lot from me but I think I trust you.” she mumbled. “This doesn’t mean we’re friends, though. I am merely giving you a piece of my mind, just honesty.”

“That’s okay with Cheshire,” the Chain replied. He was content with just having Alice close to him— she trusted him. He still had memories of that time, the time they had been friends. Even if Alice wasn’t allowed to remember, it made him happy to know she didn’t completely distrust him anymore. And it was so nice to hear her say his name… she said it a little different than she used to, as she did not know who he was, but it was enough. He could not hope to become friends with her once more. Could he?

He lifted one of his large claws, holding it out to her like he was asking her to dance with him.

“Cheshire is confused. One says porn is to clean, another says it’s about sex something Cheshire still doesn’t understand and then there was this brat who said bubbles do dirty things. What is it with that shampoo?”

“Uh, how should I say this… Porn is not to clean… Or maybe? Well in my point of view… Porn is something two or even three people is doing and is recorded in a video… Uhh—” CRAP. HOW SHOULD I EXPLAIN THIS

“…You are talking about sex. Alyss explained it. Sort of. It’s kissing and hugging, but more, too. Has the blonde brat ever used porn shampoo?”

Cheshire owes me another kiss 

“Does Alyss like to be kissed by Cheshire?”

“Alyss likes it a lot, does Cheshire like to kiss Alyss?”

“Of course! It’s because Cheshire loves Alyss!”

“Alyss loves Cheshire too.” She says, before pressing her lips lightly to his. It was her turn to kiss him.

That now familiar, but yet strange feeling filled him up again. It was so warm, so fleeting. A light pink colored his cheeks. Alyss loved him.

I knew it… He is someone from the past.

Alice wasn’t satisfied with his answer but she took it anyway. There was no doubt that he was more than just a passerby. The cat… That black cat who wore a red ribbon… It was him.

The girl stepped forward out of instinct. She was never a fan of animals but this cat gave her a strange feeling, sweet yet scary. “You! I remember you! You were the one who abducted me when I was with the Clown!” she exclaimed, still a bit surprised with the turn out of events. “Saying you care but doing such a thing…”

He flicked his ear. He could see Alice was troubled. Maybe he shouldn’t have come here after all. Maybe he should just leave, before—

“Cheshire only wanted to protect Alice,” he replied. He wasn’t sure who Alice meant with ‘the Clown’, but he simply assumed she was talking about the red-eyed guy. That had been the first time he had seen her ever since that time. Even then, it had all been for Alice. He had to protect her from the pain and sadness she had felt. She couldn’t find out— Cheshire wouldn’t allow it. He had failed to protect her then, but he wouldn’t fail again. He had to protect Alice. He had to.

I’ll be less active for a while, or quite some time, even— the reason for this is because I need to recover my old sleeping schedule so I’ll stop failing at so many things.

Yeah, I kinda failed today. Multiple times. Hard. 

Don’t worry, I’m not going on hiatus or anything, I just can’t stay up all night anymore.
